National Anti-Corruption Forum (NACF)

Mission

Coordinate strategies against corruption in South Africa

Goals

The National Anti-Corruption Forum (NACF) was established in 2001 to serve as a forum to discuss corruption challenges and advise the government on national policy initiatives in implementing anti-corruption strategies. As a multisectoral mechanism, it provided a space for the coordination and improvement of sectoral strategies against corruption.

Stakeholders

The NACF is comprised of representatives from government, business and civil society sectors.

Activities

The NACF hosts biennial National Anti-Corruption Summits. The Forum uses these conferences to reflect on the state of corruption prevention in the country and to draw attention to ongoing anti-corruption efforts carried out by the respective stakeholders. The Summit passes resolutions, which are translated into a National Anti-Corruption Programme.

Ideally, the NACF should have met every two years; however, it became inactive after the fourth National Anti-Corruption Summit in 2011. The absence of a functioning multi-sectoral mechanism is an ongoing challenge to the coordination of anti-corruption efforts between government and the private sector.
