Global Anti-Corruption Initiative (GACI)

Mission

Fight extortion and corruption along major road transport corridors

Goals

The overall goal of this project was to fight extortion and corruption along major road transport corridors and thereby secure the sustainable development of global supply chains.

Its main objectives were to:

  • Collect and analyse information on the prevalence of corruption, bribery and extortion along the major global road transport corridors on five continents;
  • Provide recommendations to combat corruption in road transport to relevant governments through UN channels.

Activities

The outcome report pf the project was presented to the Global Compact 10th Principle Advisory Group on International Anti-Corruption Day 2014 as well as to governments of participating states and leading global international groups, including the G8, G20 and World Economic Forum, to draw attention to the negative impact of corruption on road transport and stop this economic impediment.
