Anti-Corruption and Integrity in the Arab Countries (ACIAC) - Phase II

Support non-governmental actors including businesses to integrate their perspectives in national anti-corruption strategies in selected Arab countries

Phase II of the Anti-Corruption and Integrity in the Arab Countries (ACIAC) project supported non-governmental actors, including businesses, in Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia to participate in formulating and monitoring national anti-corruption reforms by providing them with specialised training programmes and specific tools to:

• Advance concrete action to reduce corruption risks in healthcare and customs; and
• Integrate Collective Action concepts and practices into programmes of national anti-corruption authorities.

The project was implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with funding from the Siemens Integrity Initaitive.

In Iraq and Libya, the project aimed to strengthen the capacity of 40 non-governmental stakeholders to disseminate information and monitor anti-corruption in healthcare and customs by June 2018 and support the development of related actionable regional declarations, enabling these to be incorporated in the national action plans of at least one of the two project countries by March 2019. It also sought to integrate Collective Action tools in programs of national anti-corruption authorities in at least one of these countries by December 2018.

In Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia, the project aimed to do this for 60 non-governmental stakeholders by March 2017. The regional declarations were to be incorporated in the national action plans of at least two of these three countries by December 2017.
