African Certification of Corporate Governance (ACCG)

Mission

Encourage the implementation of good corporate governance measures by SMEs through the attribution of a Good Governance Certification

Goals

This 5-year project aimed to support the efforts of the Ivorian Government and specialised agencies by encouraging and providing support to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the implementation of good corporate governance measures.

Stakeholders

The project was implemented by the Chambre de Commerce Européenne en Côte d’Ivoire - Eurocham.

Activities

The project reached out to more than 4000 companies to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of implementing good corporate governance.

100 SMEs were selected to participate in a year-long training scheme and suppored in their governance and compliance journey through targeted capacity building activities.

Following the training, 60 companies were invited to join the certification programme. Each of the participating SMEs underwent a corporate governance maturity assessment resulting in the identification of two good governance measures for implementation, such as the adoption of good governance company policies or the nomination of persons responsible for improving good governance practices. SMEs were supported with guidance and coaching on how to implement the identified measures. In addition, group workshops were conducted to foster networking and peer-learning among participating companies.

By March 2024, all SMEs that successfully implemented at least three good corporate governance measures received the Certificate of Good Governance. This certificate serves as a competitive and commercial advantage for SMEs.
