Advancing the Indonesian Fight Against Corruption
Mission
Enhance the capacity of Indonesian
judiciary, governmental institutions,
the National Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) and private enterprises to combat
corruption more effectively
Goals
The project aims to tackle three significant challenges in combating corruption in Indonesia:
-
Addressing the varying performance levels of the new regional Anti-Corruption Courts, established to replace the centralized ACC, aiming for more consistent and effective judicial processes.
-
Improving the legal framework for protecting whistleblowers and justice collaborators involved in corruption cases, aiming to establish clearer and more comprehensive legal safeguards.
-
Enhancing measures to combat widespread corruption in the private sector, focusing on strengthening compliance regimes and internal protection mechanisms for whistleblowers.
The timing for these efforts aligns with Indonesia's national priority to effectively prevent and eliminate corruption, particularly highlighted in the National Strategy for the Prevention and Eradication of Corruption initiated by the government in 2019. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is designated to spearhead the implementation of this strategy.
The project's objectives directly respond to the Indonesian government's need for comprehensive support in various anti-corruption activities, aiming to contribute significantly to the country's anti-corruption initiatives.
Stakeholders
The project was implemented by the East-West Center
in cooperation with the Indonesian Institute for Independent Judiciary (LeIP) with funding from the Siemens Integrity Initiative.
