Mission

Achieve a corruption free and prosperous SADC region

Goals

The Southern African Anti-Corruption Network (SAACoN) aims to achieve a corruption free and prosperous SADC region. The network exists to promote and advocate for the full implementation of anti-corruption protocols and other good practices by members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Its main objectives are to:

  • Put in place effective co-ordination mechanisms and establish linkages and synergies to combat corruption among the network and with external organisations;
  • Support anti-corruption institutions and government to achieve national and regional development;
  • Provide a one stop shop for all anti-corruption related research material for the SAACoN Network and general public;
  • Promote common values, systems and other shared principles in Southern Africa.

Stakeholders

The network members include representatives from the public and private sector and civil society, such as anti-corruption agencies, local Transparency International chapters, professional associations in the field of compliance and research institutes.

SAACoN participates in the Basel Institute’s Collective Action Mentoring Programme.

Activities

SAACoN Collective Action efforts focus on:

  • Determing best practices for SAACoN’s work with the private and public sectors
  • Research and analysis of which laws and regulations need to be strengthened including professions such as lawyers, auditors and bankers and laws regarding beneficial ownership
  • Research and analysis on the need and impact of a code of conduct by the private sector for anti-corruption in the SADC
  • Research and analysis on the feasibility for developing a certification framework based on the code of conduct.
