SME & Supply Chain Integrity Initiative

Mission

Promote integrity among SMEs and in the supply chain in Malaysia

Goals

The SME & Supply Chain Integrity Initiative aims to promote integrity among SMEs and in the supply chain, through collaborative efforts involving mainly businesses and collaborating with other stakeholders including academia, government agencies, and civil society organisations.

Targeted beneficiaries are primarily SMEs in the supply chain and businesses at large. Through capacity-building efforts and sharing best practices, this initiative aims to equip and enable SMEs with the resources to embed anti-corruption efforts in their organisations, while changing the culture and perception that corruption is inevitable for SMEs to be competitive.

Stakeholders

The initiative is facilitated by the Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (GCMYB). It received seed funding under the Siemens Integrity Initiative for the first three years.

Within the project, GCMYB developed partnerships with UNODC Malaysia, the ABAC Centre of Excellence and the Anti-Bribery Committee Japan (ABCJ).

Activities

The initiative conducted workshops in different states in Malaysia, attracting participants from the private sector, academia, and civil society. These workshops aimed to provide training on the Collective Action methodology, identify local corruption issues, and onboard companies to the initiative.

An e-learning course on anti-corruption primarily targeting SMEs was launched in collaboration with a university.

To pool resources among supply chain owners to help SMEs with their integrity efforts and scale impact, the initiative organised discussions with key stakeholders to share best practices and make commitments on supply chain integrity.
