Collective Action Initiative on Integrity and Anti-Corruption in the Private Sector in Mexico
The Collective Action initiative led by Global Compact Network Mexico and UNODC Mexico is dedicated to fostering a culture of integrity and anti-corruption in the private sector. The initiative empowers companies by providing them with the necessary tools and frameworks to assess and strengthen their ethics, integrity, and anti-corruption practices. Through multi-stakeholder collaboration and capacity-building efforts, the initiative promotes sustainable business practices that align with international anti-corruption standards.
Through a CEO pledge, companies publicly commit to fighting corruption and enable different stakeholders to hold them accountable. The pledge includes commitments to participate in Global Compact and UNODC anti-corruption activities, periodically use the self-assessment tool, and participate in training activities.
A digital self-assessment tool was developed to enable companies to evaluate their current practices, identify gaps in implementation, and compare their results with average scores by geography, size, and sector. The tool also enables companies to track their progress annually. It features an aggregated dashboard of KPIs that can inform decision-making on national anti-corruption public policy and private sector strategies. This data is used to create policy recommendation reports and develop tailored capacity-building programmes through the Public & Private Sector Peer Learning Group.
The initiative is a joint effort between Global Compact Network Mexico and the UNODC anti-corruption team. The initiative's private sector participants include companies from various industries, including Bimbo, Aeromexico, Softtek, and Baja Ferries. Government authorities are engaged in fostering public-private dialogue on integrity and compliance. Academia and civil society support knowledge dissemination and research on corporate integrity. The Public & Private Sector Peer Learning Group serves as a crucial mechanism for sharing best practices and guiding policy recommendations.
The initiative has significantly advanced anti-corruption efforts in Mexico’s private sector. It has increased awareness and participation of companies in integrity and compliance programmes and strengthened corporate commitment through the CEO Pledge and engagement in training sessions.
The initiative has facilitated collaboration between businesses and policymakers, paving the way for a more transparent and ethical business environment. Public-private cooperation has improved through data-driven policy recommendations and continuous engagement. The initiative has provided businesses with a structured platform (Peer Learning Group) to share best practices, identify legislative barriers, and develop tailored training programmes, including compliance officers supporting local governments in corruption risk management.
By positioning anti-corruption as a priority for businesses, the initiative has generated growing interest in corporate integrity projects and training. Through its Collective Action approach, this initiative strengthens corporate compliance, improves public-private cooperation, and promotes sustainable anti-corruption measures.
