The ICCA held an international conference on Collective Action: Evidence, Experience and Impact on 20–21 October 2016 in Basel, Switzerland.

This conference addressed the latest in research and practice on anti-corruption Collective Action through high-level panel discussions, workshops and key note speeches with distinguished experts and practitioners. These included: Professor Mark Pieth, Chairman of the Board, Basel Institute on Governance; David Green, Director, Serious Fraud Office, UK Government; Nicola Bonucci, Director for Legal Affairs, OECD; and Andreas Hoffmann, General Counsel and Head of Legal and Compliance of Siemens AG, among others.

The conference included sessions on the following:

• Law enforcement and the private sector: are collaborative efforts possible?
• Recent research on anti-corruption Collective Action: is there a formula for success?
• What are the incentives to engage in anti-corruption Collective Action in challenging markets?
• Can corruption risks in public procurement be cured by Collective Action?

Over 150 speakers and participants from the private sector, government, development agencies and civil society from all over the globe took part in the event. It provided a unique opportunity to share learnings and experiences on what constitutes successful Collective Action.

The discussions also helped to set the agenda for future research and the development of best practices to support the fight against corruption.
