Canadian Consensus Framework for Ethical Collaboration

Promote ethical standards to guide collaboration among patient organizations, heathcare professionals and the pharmaceutical industry in Canada

The Canadian Consensus Framework is a Collective Action focusing on creating a set of ethical standards to guide collaboration among patient organizations, heath care professionals and the pharmaceutical industry.

Stakeholders of the Canadian Consensus Framework include the Best Medicines Coalition, Innovative Medicines Canada, the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Nurses Association and the Canadian Pharmacists Association.

The Health Charities Coalition of Canada plays a leading role in the Canadian Consensus Framework and participates in the Basel Institute’s Collective Action Mentoring Programme.

The Framework sets out four overarching principles:

1. Ensures patients’ best interests are at the core of members’ activities;
2. Promotes transparent and accountable conduct;
3. Sets clear rules on gifts, funding and conferences, continuing health education and clinical research; and
4. Guides national ethical leadership.
