Consensus Framework for Ethical Collaboration between Patients’ Organisations, Healthcare Professionals and the Pharmaceutical Industry

Consensus Framework for Ethical Collaboration between Patients’ Organisations, Healthcare Professionals and the Pharmaceutical Industry

Mission

Ensure ethical collaboration in the healthcare industry

Goals

The Consensus Framework for Ethical Collaboration was established in 2014 as a platform for ethical collaboration between patients’ organisations, healthcare professionals and the pharmaceutical industry. The ultimate aim is to improve the quality of patient care.

Stakeholders

IFPMA is a founding member of the international Consensus Framework, together with the International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations, International Council of Nurses, International Pharmaceutical Federation, and the World Medical Association. The International Hospital Federation joined in 2020.

Consensus Frameworks bring together patients’ organizations, industry associations, healthcare professionals, health regulators, civil society, and academic institutions.

Several countries have adapted the consensus framework approach for their health systems, with each country providing detailed commitments and guidance according to their context.

Activities

The Consensus Framework has four overarching principles:

  • Put Patients First
  • Support Ethical Research and Innovation
  • Ensure Independence and Ethical Conduct
  • Promote Transparency and Accountability
