International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA)

IFPMA Code of Practice & Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer Roundtable

Mission

Promote ethical practices in the pharmaceutical industry

Goals

The International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) Code of Practice was first created in 1981 and is part of a decades-long commitment to promoting ethical practices in the pharmaceutical industry. Its goal is to ensure that practices in the pharmaceutical industry are governed by ethical standards in line with societal expectations.

Updated and revised numerous times, the Code sets out a rules-based compliance framework for clinical research, fees for services, support for continuing medical education, to name but a few. Many local and regional associations rely on the IFPMA Code as guidance for their own codes of conduct.

Stakeholders

Abidance to the Code is mandatory for IFPMA members, who include over 90 leading pharmaceutical companies and associations worldwide.

Activities

The Chief Ethics and Compliance Officers (CECO) Roundtable is a biannual IFPMA forum committed to advancing the global ethics and business integrity policy priorities of the biopharmaceutical industry.

Gathering the most senior executive ethics and compliance officers of IFPMA’s global, research-based pharmaceutical member companies, the CECO Roundtable is a strategic advisory body, providing a unique global policy platform on the topic of ethics and integrity, thus reinforcing IFPMA’s voice on this matter and prioritising industry engagement.
